I agree that it is a good idea to use avatars to replace humans as teachers in schools. I feel that by using avatars to communicate with the students will benefit them in many ways. Firstly, avatars involve human interaction so I feel that we will not lose our human touch. I feel that students will be more excited to learn through this way, than to sit through restless lessons by their teachers. This can also benefit people as a medium of communication among remotely located people and that they are able to meet and interact in a virtual 3-D environment. People who live in remote areas will also be able to get a good education as by using avatars, they will be able to communicate with others who can be as far as one thousand kilometres away. There are a variety of applications and uses of avatars and 3-D interactive applications in a virtual university environment. This means that the avatars will be able to do many different tasks that will help attract the student’s attention. Having avatars replace teacher will not cause the teachers to lose their jobs, in fact this will benefit the teachers too. This allows the teachers to teach in the comforts of their homes. They will still be controlling the avatars so they do not be in class teaching the students, instead avatars will be there to do that job. I feel that this will definitely attract a lot of student’s attention, as this involves interaction with the virtual world and many students are attracted by this idea as seen from the popular game “second life” where people go online and interact with other. A high percentage of students play this game so I am sure that a lot of them will be attracted by this new form of learning. This is a way of teaching that will definitely benefit both teachers and students, allowing them to venture more into the virtual world. Thus I agree that it is a good idea to allow avatars to replace teachers.
