Advantages :
1. In times of emergency evacuation or holidays.
Examples/evidence : . Instead of a video call to everyone else in your form class, why not use this robot avatars as a replacement of you teaching your students? At least they won’t drift off in the net going on any social networking sites when you’re teaching via a webcam.
Evidences: CNA video and researches from google.
2. A (virtual image) caucasian teacher teaching English in China.
Examples/evidence : A caucasian teacher could speak more proper english and as such, without having them to fly over to China just to teach English and live in an environment with not much English-speakers like her, a virtual image would definitely be a good idea to conduct a lesson.
Evidences found from researches on google.
Disadvantages :
1. You can’t be there during times of emergency or danger.
Examples/evidence : You’re just another virtual image there. What if the school get burns down and you can’t do anything but panic for your students?
2. Since teachers can teach with the help of virtual image, why not students too?
Examples/evidence : Students would definitely think this way, and as such everyone would be lazing at home instead of getting to school to learn and make friends.
I do disagree to a larger extent that it’s a good idea to use avatars to replace humans as teachers in school. I believe that the robot avatars was introduced to help favour some circumstances that people have, such as long distances communication etc. But as humans are inventing more and more new technologies, we’re getting lazier and depend on technology for most of our life, and as such, technologies would bound to take over us humans one day. Thus, I would still prefer a living teacher teaching instead of an avatar.
