Topic: Is it a good idea to use avatars to replace humans as teachers in schools?
Perform a quick research on the functions and abilities of avatars. Based on the information you have found, consider whether these functions are sufficient to meet the skills and abilities required of a teacher in schools. Are there any areas where avatars are unable to replace humans as teachers? (10-15 mins) Finally, write down what you think are the advantages and disadvantages of using avatars as teachers. (15 mins) Advantages :
The avatar is unlikely to make any mistakes. It is made to be perfect, thus I felt that having an avatar would reduce any unlikely mistakes.
Examples/evidence : Take example my history teacher. He would always mix up the odd and even week timetable and he would then miss at least half our lesson. Adding to the fact that we barely have any history lesson, his mistake would affect our grades in history as we need a teacher to teach and let us understand the chapters and also teaching us the ‘PEE’ method for inferences. Thus in this case, if we could have an avatar would be much better as the avatar would always be on time and since it is computer configuration, I doubt that it would make any mistake between the odd and even week.
Disadvantages :
It would not make the lesson as interesting as our teachers would make as an avatar would not have any feelings or expressions that would make our day better.
Examples/evidence :my teachers have always been very engaging to us in terms of their expressions and tone; or even my English teacher who draws out the lesson into our white board ! all these would make our lesson so much more interesting. Imagining an avatar with no expression for a whole day for lessons! It would be so torturing. I still remember last year where my English teacher, ms low had a monotonous voice. I hated her lessons then. It was the most boring time of the week. Thus maybe having an avatar as a teacher would not be that good.

i would think not having an avatar as a teacher would be better. i may agree that an avatar would make less mistakes and our learning would be perfect. however , if a lesson does not have any fun, then whats the joy of going to school? having to face a robot/avatar everyday when we enter a lesson , will it be very fun? i doubt it would even know that the class is noisy or quiet or even dirty ! besides teaching, a teacher cares and show love for us. we have a relationship; one that is close and have a bond. an avatar would definitely have no ability to do that. i would dare to say that a teacher would be a much better choice as a teacher for me compared to an avatar with no feelings.
