27/7/11 E-Learning English Assignment
Although technology is definitely improving, with avatars being able to replace humans, but I do think that real humans are irreplaceable.
An avatar is an illusion of the real teacher that is far away; maybe she is overseas. However an illusion cannot interact with the students. It may be more convenient for the teacher to teach, but it is not easy for the students to catch up with the teacher if she is not there to supervise them.
With an avatar, the teacher cannot walk around the classroom to see if the students are behaving well. The avatar is only an image of the teacher that is not there.
The students might not be able to understand what she is trying to say since she is just talking and making gestures. She might not be able to carry out real life experiments to make what she is trying to explain clearer.
Also the avatar is not mimicking what the teacher is doing at the moment. Therefore the avatar cannot answer the students’ questions when they have problems understanding.
An avatar defeats the purpose of being a teacher. A teacher is supposed to educate students so that they understand and are able to apply that knowledge. With an avatar, it cannot interact with the students, cannot answer questions and cannot supervise them.
Therefore a real life human teacher is a better choice than an avatar.
